 BIO:  Gerardo T. Cummings Rendón was born in Acapulco, Guerrero (Mexico). He joined the Chicano-Boricua Studies at Wayne State University which made it possible for him to earn his Bachelor’s degree in 1995. He accepted the invitation to continue at WSU and was granted his Master’s in 1997. He begun his Ph.D. work that year and succesfully passed all qualifying exams in 2000. This would have not been possible without the Graduate Teaching Assistantship he was given for five years. Due to excellent teaching evaluations he earned the Certificate of Recognition as Outstanding Teaching Assistant from the Spanish area in 1996. In 2001 he was Awarded the 2001-2003 Competitive Martin Luther King-Cesar Chávez-Rosa Parks (KCP) Future Faculty Fellowship. In 2002 he was Awarded the Summer Dissertation Fellowship from Wayne State University’s Graduate School and he also received the 2002-2003 Latino En Marcha Scholarship from the Chicano Boricua Studies Center. He was also board member of the WSU College of Liberal Arts Alumni Association (CLAAA), of the Wayne State University Alumni Association (WSUAA) and of the Wayne State Universitiy Humanities Center Advisory Board. After his tenure at Wayne State University he worked as Visiting Instructor in Cleveland State University where he taught a number of undergraduate and graduate classes and directed an independent project. Here he played a vital role in organizing the Hispanic Awareness Week celebrations in 2003. Furthermore, he twice received the Certificate of Appreciation by Enrollment and Management Services at Cleveland State University for participation in CSU’s Best: A Faculty Lecture Program (2003-2004). Due to his important work at CSU, he was featured in various campus newspapers: The Cauldron, On Campus, and The Cleveland Stater. In 2004 he accepted a position as Instructor in Bowling Green State University were he has taught a number of undergraduate courses and has been faculty advisor for La Comunidad, El Club de Español, and Sigma Delta Pi. He was Assistant Professor of Spanish at Indiana State University from 2007-2010, and he’s been with Bluefield College as Associate Professor and Director of Global Education since August 2010. Over the past years he has presented numerous papers at regional, national and international conferences were he has not only chaired and moderated sessions, but also organized them. More importantly, he has published book reviews, interviews and articles in various national and international refereed academic journals such as Selected Proceedings of the Pennsylvania Foreign Language Conference, RILCE: Revista de Filología Hispánica, Science Fiction and Research Association Review, Revista de Literatura Mexicana Contemporánea, Film Quaterly, Femspec, Crítica Hispánica, Revista Horizontes, Revista de Filología y Lingüística de la Universidad de Costa Rica and Hispania.
